Default Performance Exhaust for LT4?

I would like to replace the stock exhaust system on my '96 LT4 Coupe with an aftermarket exhaust that makes significantly more hp for running on the racetrack (road course, not drag race). The car is not a daily driver, although it is registered and insured and I drive it back and forth to the track. I'm not too worried about how loud it is, as long as I don't get arrested every time I pull up next to a cop.

I'm also looking for something reasonably priced.

Gulstrand has this for $750 which seems pretty reasonable http://www.guldstrand.com/scripts/pr...?idproduct=221

Borla's is almost twice the price at $1,410 http://www.borla.com/applications/lo..._System/14385/

I'm sure there are many others. What do you recommend?

B&B makes a 3" exhaust system. look into that...

Magnaflow's performance exhaust cat back is cheap, looks good and sounds good.

You can NOT get significant horsepower gains from a cat-back system, unless you consider 10 hp significant....

A year or so after the LT4 came out, one of the car mags ran a comparison test on several cat-backs...all were around 8-10 hp gain with the 3" B&B giving the most...that was the original B&B not the current resonance free system...

You need headers, high flow cats plus cat back to get something significant......maybe 20-25hp

I tend to disagree.

I'm a believer in magazine articles, but they don't always test 'properly.'

My experience with a Corsa on a stock LT4 showed a max gain of 17 WHP on a conservative Mustang 1750 dyno.

It was apples to apples as I could get...same dyno, same operator, same 300 rpm/sec rate, standardized numbers...all within 2 weeks of each other.

Here is a shot of strictly Corsa gains over OEM exhaust...even at low rpm 5 WTQ!

I still run this exhaust on my ~480 CHP setup...quiet on cruise and opens up on the throttle. Not too mention in the 50,000 miles I've had it on the car, I've replaced most pieces due to various issues and had to pay not one cent due to such great customer service/warranty.

I've installed the Magnaflow Cat-Back system, it gives a great tone/rumble at 3,000 + RPM...addictive
