I have a 1996 Collectors Edition, automatic. Idle is high, running at about 1,200 RPMs. Sometimes it will correct and go back down, but that's becomming more rare as the days go on. Seems like a stuck choke, but I suspect it may be a computer problem?? Can anyone out there give me a list of what to check and related fixes?
Oh you were serious
Only carbs have chokes, Injection does not so no car sold in the US in about 20 years has had a choke
The IAC is the Idle Air Control, The idle is controlled by this in your mass air flow or MAF
A dirty MAF can also cause this problem
Get a FSM or service manual
Also fill out your profile so someone local to you can help
What is does is control the amount of idle air by moving in and out. Mostly the IAC gets dirty and is not able to move. Simple to remove, clean and re-install.
With the hood up, from the passenger side look at the side of the throttle body and you will side a small electrical connector. That is where the IAC is at. The IAC is held on with two #15 Torx screws. Carefully remove the connector, the two screws, and remove the IAC. There is an O ring, so don't drop it. Clean the soot off the IAC tip. Use a Q-tip to clean the passage in the throttle body. You can use some throttle body cleaner (NOT carb cleaner). Re-install and gave it a try.
