Does anyone know which wires to connect on the digital dash to put it in test mode (all lights and indicators on). I would like to test before puttting back in car, easier on the bench with a 12 volt source than trying to wrangle it into dash, connect and expect good results.
Thanks,
Woody
Not sure exactly what tests you expect to get but if you want to see if everything lights up--think this should do it. You will be using the 32-pin connector and not the 24. You will just need 12v battery and a ground.
Grounds (many times if these grounds are bad/lots of cluster problems):
D1-blk (in car to driver pillar ground screw)
D3-blk/wht (in car to ambient over-ride sensor, through bulk head to engine ground) (think the 85 works this way)
Power:
D5, D16 and C16 (all 12v DC)
So, if the cluster in car or on your table has a good ground on both D1 and D3 and 12v to D5, D16 and C16, it should light up.
Sorry, had 85 corvette in my head. This works for the 84--I have one and used this to find my photo cell bad. In my case I also had a cold solder joint in the grd pins between the two boards. And, I bought a photo cell from radio shack and changed it and it worked fine. I think you can also remove the photo cell and solder a bridge in its place and then the cluster just stays bright all times.
