Can you unscrew the oil cap on the valve cover and see if the rockers are getting oil? If they are, the problem might be the oil pressure sending unit.
Anything that you did just prior to zero pressure? Or did it just happen?
What about a broken oil pump drive stub...the part that takes the place of the distributor.
It is made of plastic and held by one bolt...MORE used to sell a metal reinforcement incase of plastic failing (I pulled my 85,000 original out with a crack).

Don't need to remove the covers, you can hear the rattling

No, I was just driving home from work and the check gauge light came on, unfortunitly I didn't hear the noise until I was pulling up the drive. I hope I didn't cause any serious damage!

Hopefully it is just a bad sender...
Good luck.
Above is one possibilty or it's possible the pickup may have come loose from the pump (just a press fit)---years ago I tack welded the pickup in place--I don't know whether all builders do that today though JMO
I had the car towed to the shop yesterday, and should have an idea of what is up this morning. I just didn't have the time to explore the possibilities. If I knew what to expect I could have dropped the pan and delt with it, but I was getting too many suggestions from the different people I talked with. I will post the outcome as soon as it is determined.
Thanks!
Hope you realize the stub oil pump drive I'm speaking of goes in thru the intake side...no reason to drop the pan.
Good luck!
The pan was pulled, and the gear on the drive was worn excessively, metal fragments in the oil & filter, pulled the main caps /rod caps off - the bearings have been damaged slightly. The intake will be pulled, the oil pump drive replaced as well as all the other components along the way, and the bearings will be replaced as well. Things are not real good, but hope to have it back on the road by the end of the week.
I had the same issue on my former LT1 at 10K miles. I have an LT4 now
but it still worries me I'm going with the comp cams composite gear.
High oil pressure will eat the oil pump drive gear up.
