Ok, know I am considering gettting a miniram intake for my new engine in August, so I got awhile to decide and was just looking into all of my options. It seems like the stealth ram from holley is a good intake to but requires quite a few mods to make it work, the miniram seems pretty straight forward. Ive heard I would need to get the chip programmed/tuned, if I was to install a miniram. I dont know much about the computer in the car, where would be the best place to send it to get it programmed, preferrably cheap?
Nothing is cheap when you start playing wth the computer. I put a Miniram on my 89 with other heavy mods (see profile) and the car is at the dyno shop now trying to get the tune right. First off, I had to find a shop that would run it on a dyno and find any problems and then get with TPIS and exchange info to get the tune right. They found the car was running very lean and the tech has been in contact with Jim, who I have been dealing with from the onset. To date, Jim had burned four (4) chips and over night ups'd them. The last pull was today and they are close but the tech wants to get it closer on cruising speeds. TPIS has been great. On the power pull, he is showing 311 rear wheel hp. Don't know what that equates at flywheel hp.
Was hoping for more but what it is, it is. The car is fun to drive and sounds great.
The Miniram is great and so easy to work on. Injectors are five (5) minutes away, and looks great. They are a little pricey but I would do it again.
Got a little off topic but I don't think you can do mods and expect to be right on the first time and once you start there is no turning back.
Good luck

well im going to have a stock zz4 engine base. I just need the chip programmed for the miniram. Or would you all recommend that I just go with edlebrock tpi intake runners and intake manifold base?
Maybe some who have put a Mini on a stock motor will get in on this. I think that a Mini on a stock motor will not gain you much and for the cost I would look at other options. Unless of course you plan to go aftermarket heads and cam at some point. However you go I would recommend finding a dyno afterwards to see how the mixture is.

Mini will work great with the ZZ4. Do it. I had the big base/ASM runners but ended up going to a Mini. Alvin at PCM for less can do a tune for you for a fair price. I recomend you get some datalogging equiptment now if you do not have it. Datalogs willl help the tuner get you a good chip.
which would be better with just a stock zz4 though? I am looking to try an get to the 300-350 horsepower range after all said and done. Dont want to have to change out the heads/cam. Also will be putting on some tpis headers eventually, and a magnaflow catback exhaust and probably try and get a hi flow cat or just remove it alltogeather. I also considered getting edelbrock hi flow runners and intake manifold. Would the miniram be better than getting the edelbrock hi flow runners/manifold for a stock zz4?
First off, let me say that I love the MiniRam. I have an 86 TA that I've been fiddling with since I bought it new. Overall the MR has been the best.
My opinion is that it will work well with the ZZ4. However, if you're running an auto, you will need a converter and possibly gears such as 3.73. If you have a stick, it will work great.
Don't worry about tuning, there is so much information and tresources available, you shouldn't have any problems.
