Ok, im about to replace my injectors with Bosch III's, because my current ones are leaking. I lose fuel pressure after shutdown, and the car is hard to start between 1-5 hours after driving. I am just wondering how the leaking injectors are causing this. I understand it is mainly the loss in fuel pressure, but where is the fuel leaking out of? and where does it go? It sounds like a stupid question but really i just want to know if this could be damaging my engine/fuel system.
If you do have leaking injectors, the fuel leaks past any open valves into the cylinders and in effect floods the cylinders. When the motor cranks, there is too much fuel to ignite the spark and the motor needs to crank for a while until the excess fuel is lost out the exhaust. You will usually see dark smoke out the tailpipe when your motor starts if you have leaking injectors. Too much of this for too long can wipe out your cylinder walls and rings due to lack of lubrication and you oil can be diluted with fuel which doesn't help bearings. Your problem could be the fuel pump, regulator or something else.
Perform a fuel pressure leak down test, a resistance test on your injectors, and check the vacuum line on your FPR this will at least get you on the right path based on what you find

If your putting in new injectors install a new Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) diaphram (~$40) while you have the plenum pulled/apart. Since your's is an '88 I'm sure she's about ready for a new one.

1985 L98... This sounds like a good idea. I've a set of Design III's from Jon, waiting for some time to install them. I hadn't considered updating the FP regulator diaphram while I'm in there. Is the FPR serviceable in this sense, or is it time to switch to an adjustable FPR? Advice based on others' experience is always appreciated.
