Starter is installed
Just a follow-up on the mini-starter install on the 85. Got it finished last night and fired it up and the starter did great! I want to thank the forum for your help with advice on the installation. It wasn't the easiest thing I have ever done, but not as hard as I thought it would be. Hardest part was getting the old one out because it was a lot bigger than the new one. I had to hold it with one hand while trying to remove the bolts to the electricals. After I put the new one in there was a gap between the starter and the bellhousing lower pan because of the starters size. I don't know what the proper procedure is but I just filled the space with aluminum foil and silicone sealer just to keep the dirt out. I had to put several washers on the starter bolts because the starter mounting surface was smaller, no problem. The install required no shims and the starter doesn't seem to drag or make unusual noises. So I guess I at least saved myself the labor costs! Again thanks!
