I have suspected my cat to be bad for a while now, and today I decieded to "gut" it.

It all started when I had to take my GF to work at 7 this morning. I got back at 7:15 and instead of going back to sleep, I decided to finally do it.

WHAT A PAIN IN THE ***.

This thing was a complete B**** to get off. The bolts were so goddamn tight it was unreal. It took me a total of 4 hours to take it apart, gut it, and bolt it back together (had to drop hangers and stuff too).

I can definitely tell the difference in power though. It revs much quicker, and pulls harder through 2000-4100. I'd say through my SOTP-o-meter, about 10 hp. (probably down that hp from being clogged, but who knows)

heres some pics.

I forgot to take a picture before I smashed it, so thats why its like that.

All cleaned up.

The remains of what was once a clogged POS.

If you know of an auto recycler nearby - they might be willing to give you something for the material that you gutted out of the cat. Lots of stories of shady characters jacking vehicles and stealing cats for this material!! Glad you found some lost HP!

Don't use that F*****g language young man! The lords name is not to be taken in vain like that. Ima wash your mouth out with soap! No, I am just kidding. Removed all cats and havent looked back. Tried High flows and didn't like them. Might throw em on later down the road when my exaust is the real deal.

Your car might be a little stinkier now. Mine is a little but oh well.

Cat looks like it was good before you hit it. Did you gut the pre-cats too? I don't remember if your year has three cats or not.

I agree.

This cat looked in very good condition.

There was no need to gut it .

Most probably it would have been better to gut the pre cats.

there aren't any pre-cats on my car.

after i gutted it, it stopped not wanting to rev past 2200 rpm, and doesn't idle all over the map.

plus.. no insides = more HP

at least it looks legal.

Mine is next.....as soon as I get mine through emissions. It is the last time it has to go through. It flunked on idle HC's yesterday, 450 with a limit of 220. It easily passed cruise with no EGR. I also have no air pump. I brought it home and fixed my wildly pulsating AFPR by putting in the slug washer on top of the spring, but I had to cut the adjusting bolt in half so it doesn't hit my plenum. Yay! Steady gauge reading now. Also cleaned the throttle body passages and idle pintle thingie. Any ideas to make sure it will pass? Thinkin about adding some alkie to the gas. I want to gut that kitty when I am done!
