Default I Need Targa Top Help...

I have an 85 that I have been working on for about a year now, and not too long ago as I was finishing up for the day I closed the door and saw something move out of the corner of my eye. I opened and closed the door again, and as it turns out, when the door closes the front of my targa top pops up off the frame kind of like a nifty little pressure relief valve...

There is a club I have seen on here that I do not wish to join (flying roof club) so I am looking for a little help.

It is a clear top and I would like to repair it myself. I have searched the posts and the only thing I came up with was that some folks used a marine type glue that worked for about two years. The post was old though, and I am hoping maybe someone has come up with something different since then. I am open to any ideas....

Why is it coming up? Is in not in the frame or is it cracked or is the bolt not in it? If its cracked ,go ahead and check ebay for a new top because sooner or later you will need it. I put 2 part epoxy on my cracked top and it lasted a good while but ended up having to buy one before it was all over. Good luck.

the glass is separating from the top there is no home brew fix that will last. Melrose will repair it if it hasn't been 'fudged' by someone before. Otherwise you're better off biting the bullet and replacing it, you don't want a lawsuit if the top flies off and hurts someone behind you.

It's not cracked at all, it is just partially separated. Seems as though it is unmolested.
I was hoping that there was a recommended adhesive, I mean, if there is a company that repairs them there has to be a glue of some kind that works...

I'm about ready to use a nail gun.....

Awww man no nail guns... LOL...

It's not that bad, I had the same issue when I first got my 84 vette,
The frame just came seperated from the glass, You can send it in for repair, Or just get a new top, The one you have is worth a 100.00 as a core... You can purchase fiberglass tops for a little less $$$ ( what i did) or you can spend 350.00 to 500.00 on a glass top.. ( Which I will do soon ) Just kind of tight on cash right now..

The glass tops I think are for sure nicer,

Better to be safe then sorry cause if that sucker flies off your car & you hurt someone , Then your in Deep Chit....

Ant....

Can an automotive glass shop fix something like this? If Melrose can do it why can't someone else?

Melrose specializes in Corvette tops and has an excellent reputation.

Bottom line is you get what you pay for, in a case like this, where there is literally a multi-million dollar lawsuit possible, you don't want to cut corners.

If it is just separated take it to a local auto glass shop.
