great forum here i've been searching and there is a lot of great info on here!!!
my problem is that i took the steering wheel off to replace my broken turn signal lever and i can't get the lock plate pushed in to put the c clip back... i got the puller but how do you get the telescoping shaft to stay put?
I did this once awhile back and my memory is fuzzy. I seem to remember getting a set screw that screws into the center threads of the telescoping column. You can then tighten the screw with an allen wrench and the telescoping column will stay in place.
I just did this myself & had the same problem, Not sure what tool you are using, But I rented a steering wheel puller/ locke plate compressor tool ( pep boys), It cost me 58.00 but you get your money back as long as the tool is returned within 10 days..
With that tool there is a U-shaped gadget that the center bolt goes through to the column shaft that slides up & down, Just use a smaller screw that will fit in the center of the shaft to lock the sliding shaft in place, Then you can tighten the u-shaped gadget to compress the lokeplate back down.. It is real easy, I was stumped at first, but then I figured it out, but 3 hours later...
I don't know why they don't tell you that either, I looked at the manual for like 2 hrs, Then spent another hour out in the car trying to figure it out how to get that damn shaft not to slide...
