Brake Question
I am in the process of replacing my 4 rotors with new drilled and slotted rotors. The manual states that if you remove the caliper mounting bracket the bolts can not be reused. My question is this just a safety issue. Can I reuse the bolts and what is that adhesive they are talking about. If I must replace the bolts can I get them at Advance Auto or do I have to go to the dealer.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !!!
I use a wire brush on my bench grinder to clean the bolts and a bronze 12 gauge shotgun cleaning brush for the female threads on the bracket. Lots of non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner helps here. I have re-used the original bolts on my 87 about 8 times now.
Don't use the Loctite Red as that stuff requires heat to get it to release.
Apparently the dealership techs don't have the training to clean bolt threads and apply new threadlocker. But if they did, then the service department can't sell you any new bolts (which are about $4 each).
