How much louder are long tubes (with bullet cats) over the stock manifolds, or shorties?
I might be interested in a set of long tubes/bullet cats after all, but am concerned that they would be a little too loud with my Power Effects exhaust. Any insight?
Had Power Effects and shorty headers and went to long tubes, high flow cats, no resonator and xpipe. Its definitely louder. Probably 2x where your at now.
Closing the modules does help. Add your stroker motor and 3 inch pipes and get back at the neighbor next door.

Do you think that it's so much louder because you removed the resonator? "Hutch" posted a while back that his WIFE didn't notice any difference at all when he switched from his PE alone, to his TPIS longtubes/random cats/PE setup!
I can't deal with 2x the noise!!! :nonod:
I went from SLP shorties with stock cats to TPIS longtubes and no cats and the car is way louder. I have a flowmaster cat back with the resonator in place and the car is audible a few blocks away!

Thanks, but again, I'm trying to find out how loud an engine would be with long-tubes, and PE exhaust including cats and resonator. I'm hoping it's not much louder than the PE with stock manifolds. Anyone else?
My friend with the GS has the res, and had the shorties and cats. He then dumpped the cats and added the long tubes. The nosie level went up some, but it wasn't much really. Now keep in mind I've lost some of my hearing because of my exhaust I'm only 24 OUCH. Any time you remove the cats the exhaust nosie increases. I didn't think you could add long tubes to a LT-1/4 without relocting the cats, or doing away with them? The longtubes are in the way of the stock area for the cats. HMM?
Which reminds me. My friend gained little HP with the long tubes and he even removed the cats. HMMM?
A word about flowmaster. Love them but they make things loud. I had flowmaster for years. Hence the hearing loss. The car was much quiter without the flowmaster mufflers than with them.
I have a Corsa so I don't know if this relates to the power effects system. When I got rid of the cats and went with long tubes the car is way louder. You can hear my car a long way away. At full throttle it is almost deafening if you are nearby. Thankfully the corsa keeps the noise away from the driver. The car seems quieter at cruise now than it did before. My long tubes did add a "tin-ny" sound. I have heard this is common with long tubes.
My seat of the pants hp is way up. The car feels a lot stronger. I haven't had a chance for any drag strip time yet due to weather. I am going to get a dyno at the end of March for my club's dyno day. I may take a trip down to MTI before then to see what the actual hp difference is.
I am having TPIS long tube headers and Random bullet cats installed Monday by the Vette Doctors. I will let you know the sound difference as soon as I get the car back. My car is currently a Vette Doctors head and cam car with short tube headers and a BB Tri Flo exhaust. I am also going to have the car dynoed before and after the install.

Great Dave! I really look forward to hearing from you.
