I have a 1993 Vette, 4L60 automatic (not the 94 electronic type) and the TV cable was clicked open and slid down. How do I adjust it properly to keep the right pressure in line? ANd can the wrong pressure mess anything up, or cause anything wierd while driving?
Well the manual says to pull the adjuster all the way back, then open the throttle untill it snaps into place. This is a wierd way to do it since it seems that it will snap into some random place. I did this when i put my new trans in and it shifted too hard to late with a light throttle. So I had my son hold the throttle all the way open while i pulled the adjuster back all the way and had better luck with this method. You can then fine tune it by unsnapping the cable and moving it one notch at a time. You dont want it shifting to soft, this will wear out the trans, nor too hard, you're just beating everything up.

Steve,
This procedure does not work on the 92-93 models with ASR. The TV cable goes from the Transmission to the ASR box. The correct procedure is detailed in the factory service manual. It involves using a 1/8 in drill bit shank to align the holes in the ASR Box. Then using a inch pound torque wrench to set the cable. I dont have a scanner to scan it for you, But I did copy it one time and I mailed it to Raysur. If you contact him he might be able to scan it and e-mail it to you. If not I can mail it to you as well.
I have the service manual, but did not see where it said to use a 1/8 inch shank. II I unlock the tab, and let it slide back, how far forward does it need to come back, on yours JIM? I have a mark that I believe when I bought it I marked for this occasion, but a quick reference to another 93 could help. Steve
Steve,
Sorry to take so long to get back, but the location of the factory adjustment is in book 1, section 5e2-133 altough it starts on 5e2-131. Hope this helps. When you look in the book and see how long of a section it is you will see why I didnt want to type it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Red 86 4+3,
I had some other things going on so I thought a throttle body that won't fully open is not all that bad. It's now on my nerves so I pulled your papers out and I have the tools ready for Monday. I'm hoping this will get my tb to open up all of the way.
Well I didi exactly what the service manual said, and the tranny shifts fine now. Havent done WOT yet. The only thing that went wrong was, after the adjustment, the throttle only opened half way. SO I adjusted that back to full throttle, without adjusting the TV cable.
I was cusrious, can this cause the tranny or engine management to faulter if the TV cable is out of adjustment?
Thanks for the help. Steve
Red 86 4+3 thanks, I finally fixed my car. The throttle opens 100% now but I didn't like the tv cable adjustment. If you fully extend the cable the shifts happen faster. If you fully compress it the shifts happen at a higher rpm. I had my friend get in the car and floor the car and release it. He did this constantly so that I could adjust it. If you have it fully extended the tb won't open up all the way so I continued to move the cable towards the ASR box until the tb opened 100%. I love it there because it drops to a lower gear quicker at wot. The car felt like it gained a good punch in power:D.
I've always had my tv cable adjusted closer to the tranny than the asr box. But I don't know if it's killing anything.
Raysur,
I wonder if it will hurt the transmission as well. It changes the fluid pressures inside the transmission. I know when I take off at partial throttle, mine barely moves and then shifts into 2nd. Wish it didnt do that.
