It looks like I may have to rebuild my engine in my 89 due to the leakdown. I'd like to know if anybody knows the weight of the clamshell hood, with headlights, so I can start making plans. I don't want to get halfway into removing the bolts and such, only to find out that my buddy and I cannot remove it ourselves (my health condition and his shoulder issues). When opening it the hood "feels" quite heavy, but it may just be the way I'm opening it and not a condition of the weight of the hood...can anybody give information on this??
I haven't pulled the engine in mine yet. But I'm not planning on pulling the hood. Once the hood and bumper are lined up, I would try at all costs to avoid pulling it. Its a royal pain to get everything back and square.
I don't know what it weighs, but if you do remove it, scribe all joining parts so that you have a way to relocate their position when you put the hood back on.
pull the motor out side then roll the car up in the garage.
If I could fit the engine hoist on the side of the car then I would do it that way, but this is what I meant when I said it was not wide enough. I only have 12 to 14" on each side of the car when it's in the garage, so the only option is to remove the clamshell.
