What did you use to make your own? I just found my TB is leaking. (Just put on a used 52mm and had to use my old plate and gasket on it so i'm not surprised.) I'm thinking it will be cheaper to just bypass the thing, than buy a gasket.
Just need to join the lines in / out of the TB ( need short section of new hose to replace the bent one ) or run a new hose all the way to heater core from intake

I ran a new hose the capped of the TB with rubber covers.

Barb and her sister in the link below eliminate tees and extra unnecessary hoses under the hood.

my 86 came with a water bypass valve that I still don't fully understand the purpose of; but I have a valve handle that I can turn open and closed. When it is shut there is not hot water to the heater core. The only thing I can find that it does is that I cant turn on any heat with it shut. I would love for any info on why this mod was performed.

May the past owner thought he would extend heater core life by passing it or if it was leaking at one time he wanted to still drive the car

More than likely the original vac controlled heater control valve was bad ( common ) and manual valve is easy fix to stop having hot air inside in summer.
Plastic hose coupling from O'Reily's and my problem is fixed. $2
I really don't like plastic. With the engine heat it could get brittle and someday crack. I prefer metal connections to plastic. Remember, if it breaks, it is NOT on your schedule. IOW, you will probably be in the middle of BFE when it gives. At that point, watch out for the weird looking kid who can play the banjo.
