Default Dyno Numbers!

Over the weekend, I strapped my stock LT4 to the dyno:

297 rwhp
302 rwtq

Not a bad place to start...I'm thinking a full Borla exhaust, long tube headers, LT4 hot cam, and a dyno tune should really wake it up!

All it takes is money, and that might take a few months...Still, I'm happy with those numbers!

I dynoed my all-stock LT1 a couple of years ago w/ 270 hp & 301 tq ATW.
LT4s are rated 30hp higher than LT1s, so you are right on target.
Those mods you want should really wake it up. Good numbers.

Skip the headers and have the heads ported. An electric water pump is a proven gain as well.

doing the heads is good if you want to completely tear down the engine. if you just want to do bolt-on's, headers and full exhaust is the way to go. but at the same time, the cam isn't exactly bolt on...

more proof that the LT4s are stronger than advertised, and every bit as powerful as the LS1s that replaced them

my bone stock LT1 dynoed 266/306, so it looks like LT4s were 30hp stronger than a LT1... except that figure seems to be REAR WHEEL hp, not flywheel

awesome #s!

LT4 dyno results and the LT4>LS1 discussion starts up...again.

I'll take an LS1 over an LT4 every day of the week, and twice on Sunday (and yes, I actually own one of both).

To the OP: Nice numbers! Long tubes and exhaust is a great starting point. I'm not a big fan of the EWP, but others really like them. Head and intake porting with a cam will add some power, but that's hardly bolt on work.

For what it's worth, my LT4 made almost the exact same numbers as yours stock.

- with headers, tune, and electric water pump it made 327rwhp and about the same torque number

- with a Hotcam it made 354rwhp & 348rwtq

- with no belt on it, it made 361rwhp

You aren't going to gain much if anything from an aftermarket cat back system. Your LT4 stock exhaust is fairly non restrictive up to about the volume need for 400rwhp.

LT headers and the hot cam will do much more for you than an exhaust system.

Avg LT1 260ish rwhp rated at 300hp
Avg LT4 290ish rwhp rated at 330hp

Difference of 40 hp+- each. What am I missing, how are they stronger than advertised?

port the heads, slap in a new cam some LTs and tune and you will be very close to 400 rwhp and will be able to run with any corvette out there except maybe the new Z.

All the LT4s are stronger than what GM told us.

Lots of theories. Do a search here. I do not want to add to the speculation.

All I will say is this: I own an LT4 that I purchased new. I have over 106,000 miles. I have spanked every stock C5 I have ever seen. You tell me why!

Back in 04/05 when my LT1 was still stock I also beat several C5's. I guess my LT1 is under rated too.
