I have a 1990 C4 , A4, coupe which I have learned has the 4L60 trans ( not the 4L60E)
I have read the only electrical part of it is the converter lock up.
Out of the blue, the shift into Drive became very violent, the upshifts are delayed and when they happen it's like a shift kit -bang!
I tried readjusting the TV cable up at the TB location but it had no affect.
The car only has 57k miles on it. The fluid is ok and the tranny service was at about 54k miles.

Flat,
I'm not the Auto tranny expert but, 54K miles? Your tranny is due for ATF change now (maybe 20,000 miles ago). I've changed my ATF and filter every 25,000 miles
The TV cable, through the throttle valve, controls the transmission in a similar way that vacuum modulators did previous transmissions. Something is wrong in there. Bad cable, frayed, maybe. Check the cable out thoroughly.
has your idle speed increases ? If so, believe it or not, It may be your TPS thats causing the problem.
Bob RR3 -
Yes I see your post. The TPS - I have been doing some research and yes I will look into that. Need a volt meter to set it - correct ? or just mark the position of the existing??
I took the car to a transmission shop. The TV cable and TPS on the TB were functioning OK. They dropped the pan and cleaned out the valve body and put some kind of "helper spring" in because something was getting hung up.
Cost me $300. Car is fixed fortunately without a rebuilt.
The stock 1990 corvette has a 700R4 automatic not the electronically controlled 4L60. Sounds like you need to adjust your TV cable.
Take off the air snorkle, flip the TB butterflies to WOT, depress the TV cable lock (it is the black spring loaded button on the mount) and release the lock. The button is right in front of you but it doesn't look like a button it is a round black part of the mount facing the driver side front wheel. You are done and it is simple. If it is out of adjustment you can burn up the 2-3 clutch pack in the tranny.
I hope this helps.
Change the fluid and filter and don't forget to remove the rubber filter grommit in the filter housing tube. WHen you pull out the old filter it will usually stay in the tube. The new filter has one included. Put it on the filter neck and push it in the tube until it seats.
