I was out driving around, met up with some racing people from around town .. on my way home I noticed a rotational noise ... it was obviously from the tires. I thought it would be a rock stuck in the tread .. i get home, it's a GIANT BOLT!!!! :cry :cry :cry I swear .. if my luck could get any worse, I would be dead right now, because that's about the only thing left with my luck.
I had to take the car to a tire store to have the bolt pulled out and a plug put in. :(
So, what does a plug do to my tire? No going over 100mph any more, or what? The bolt (luckily .. ha), went right into one of the big groves, and there is no pressure on that area.
In the pic those are rocks holding on to the stick rubber pieces that are sticking out. The entire plug was about 4" long and two strands of rubber.
I don't plug tires I only patch them from the inside.
75% of my tires have had a run in with a sharp object :mad
So I just take it down to Big Frank's Tire and have them patch the tire for ~$10-$15. Good as new  I feel yer pain man.
Keep your head up dude.I don't know if you noticed.. I am on my way to my third tranny since 1997. Some have similar combos and are still on their first! :D. No biggy.. I don't let it get to me. It's actually a relief that it happened now. I'd flip if it failed around spring/summer. 'Been through that too many times last year.
Everything is riding on good tires....including your life....My wife died from blowout...not a high speed one either....I would miss you on the board... Go get some tires..We care..terry
Sorry to hear that. Just think positive. It is a good reason to buy tires now :D . Sometimes we put things off until we have to do them. Well now it looks like you have to do it. Big hit to the wallet
Shoot, TO THIS DAY, there's a nail/bolt in my tire...I've been too busy to go down and have it patched. I've been keeping an eye on the pressure, and it's stayed perfectly at 40psi, so I think I'm ok. But on that tire ALONE, there's already 2 patches!

Re: My luck hits again :( (Glock'94)
I picked up a screwdriver, that's right a screwdriver, about 6 inches long. Phillips head with the plastic part gone. Apparently someone else had hit it and left it for me to pick up. Broke the belts so I had to buy a new tire since I was 1000 miles away from home. Kept the screwdriver as a "$300" memento.
I have a P255/45 ZR17 Goodyear Eagle F1 (80% tread) just sitting in the garage. When I bought the 96 last spring, it had 3 wornout GSC's and the lone F1 on it (right front). Left the GSC's with the tire store, but kept the F1. If you can limp (under 100) that 383 up 44 to Sand Springs, it's yours. :D
I had one in my one tire for ~1.5 yrs till the tire wore out! Just kept an eye on it and it never lost pressure. After a while I forgot about it, till I would put it up on a lift and change the oil, then I would see it staring me in the eye. Keep in mind mine is not a daily driver, but I still should have and would recommend changing it. Good luck and sorry for the bad luck!
Dude... I drove 40k+ miles on plugs... not a problem. The tire will not blow out from that. once the plug sets into the carcass of the tire, life will be a-ok.
now, if you want, I have a pair of GSCs I could let you have... 275-45-17s... sucking up space... shipping is it... they have good tread left. one left, one right.
