I just replaced mine Tuesday...not too difficult.
The plenum bolts on my '90 are a T-40.
The regulator has tamper resistant T-10 bolts, so you'll either need the special torx tool, or use a small punch to knock out the pins.
Relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the battery.

Thanks, replaced it in a few min but the car still doesn't start. I'm at a loss right now I really don't know what else to do beside replace the injectors. Any other ideas.
Thanks.

did the "no start" occur after any work/repairs or just out of the blue ? do you have spark at the plugs ? Do you have fuel pressure when cranking? do you have compression ? Need more info in order to be able to make a good WAG lol

Ok so the car sat for a while so I changed the cap rotor wires fuel filter and fuel pump and now the fuel preasure reg. Prior to changing all of that the car only started when tb cleaner was put in. But then crapped out shorty after. When I crank it I smell fuel.
So that's the story.

I would check with a gauge and be sure you have fuel pressure...i don't have the specs in front of me...but 30-40 psi should start it...if that's ok....try a local parts store and buy a noid light to check for voltage at the injectors connectors should blink/pulse while cranking engine...I said all that as a sorta process of elimination. If I had to guess though from your post.... the fuel itself may be bad (depending on how long it has been sitting) It doesn't take long for fuel to turn to "varnish"---It's not good on these cars or any fuel system for that matter to let the car sit long periods. It's very hard on fuel pumps/lines/filters and injectors IMO

Stupid question but even if it smells like gas you think i should take it all out and start fresh
I check the injectors with the light and there good but i havent checked the pressure yet.

Not a stupid question...but I would check pressure first..when you say that it sat for awhile are we talking a month..6 months or years? If it's been setting a very long time... IMO old stale gas has a nasty/stale smell unlike what you smell at gas station filling up. If it's been sitting long enough i'd replace the fuel before replacing the injectors. I'd also suggest before replacing the injectors that you check the resistance of each injector with a VOM.....each should be around 16 ohms.

What about the ECM could that control the fuel pressure to the rail. I didn't have the pressure gauge bit I depressed the shrader valve and there is nothing no hiss or anything.

Bingo....check the fuel pump you should be able to hear it once the key is turned to the "run" position....it will only run for a few (2-3) seconds unless the engine is started......you may have to cycle the key a few times to get pressure. You might not have enough fuel in the rails yet since you changed the fuel filter. There is an arrow drawn on the fuel filter which indicates which direction it should be installed...you may want to check that if it is in question. We know your fuel pump ran before because you smelled gas....so I'm guessing your pump and related circuitry is OK. Pick up a fuel pressure gauge when you have a chance.

So, I took some gas out of the tank, prior to that the Pump works the fuel filter works and all the relays are working. the fuel that i took out of the tank separated and was not looking to good, i think thats the problem bad fuel. the other problem is that the tank is almost full.
So i have to drain the tank and put some good gas in the car and I hope it fires up

I would venture to say that if you have no fuel pressure you have a bad fuel pump. And if you have as much water/stuff in the gas that you looked at, you might want to pull the injectors while you are at it since you have no fuel pressure anyways.

You might check your relay before dropping change on a pump.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you run the fuel pump on an '86 by jumping A to G on the ALDL? If this is correct, try this and see if you have pressure.

I just replaced the fuel pump 2 weeks ago and it does turn on for 2or3 second when key is turned. So I guess I have to yank the injectors. Any sugestions where to buy.
Thanks for the advise

I would say that 2 of the best places to get your injectors are from:

1. http://fuelinjectorconnection.com/shop/
2. racetronix

Both are very good sources for injectors. I am a firm believer in Racetronix fuel pumps. Mine works great.

You might check your relay before dropping change on a pump. Ditto for the fuel pump fuse.
