Default Best Wires for Headers?

Does anyone have suggestions for plug wires to stand up to LT headers? I currently have Taylor Spiro Pros but they are around 5 years old. I don't think they will handle the heat of the headers.

What have you used?

I have a set of Hooker headers and use MSD wires.

You can always put protective boots on the wires, it helps immensely.

The black flex loom is mostly for looks, but also helps with cross arcing.

I've been running my Taylor Spiro Pro's for ~8 years with headers, and no problems.

The wires will hold up for the 2 years you should leave them in until you are supposed to change plugs/wires again, but depending on the header brand and fitment to the heads, you might notice wires with thicker boots will touch the header pipe, those cloth boots are the only way you will get around not having to replace wires once a week.

They'll burn through very fast.

Mine rub the wire boot on #7 and #6, so even with the boot protectors on, I end up changing out a wire every couple months.

Yes just plastic 3/8 loom. The 3/8 will fit over up to 9mm wires and you can get 50ft rolls from Summit for around $10-$12, cheapest I found it and I just buy large rolls of it because I use it for everything (took like 20 plus feet to do the plug wires).

How about a set that mounts by being routed under the headers?

That's what I picked.

That's what I did too. It's more work but I used the MSD 8.5's in the extra long universal kit with 90 degree boots covered with the MSD Pro Heat Guard for abrasion and heat resistance and ran them under the headers...ala C3 style. I have no heat or clearance issues at all plus I think it looks cleaner.

What's "MSD Pro heat guard"? Is it boots, spray, or other?

8.5mm is what I was looking at until I found this set of 10mm race-grade wires...

SBC CHEVY RACE GRADE SPARK PLUG WIRES 10MM BLK 327-OMK

I found them on everybody's favorite auction site.

It's a sleeving material but it's not going to work on a 10mm wire I'm certain, it is a tight fit on the 8.5's. One roll of 25ft was enough for me to do all 8 wires and then I used shrink tubing at each end to seal it to the wires.

Have you run the motor yet ?? If not, I see a melt down coming your way. I had a piece of that stuff, over the aux fan temp switch wire. It didn't last long.

To the original poster, I think it's more about wire routing, than what wire. I'm using the stock looms and wires and not a hint of burning around headers.

I sure like the look and idea of routing them under the headers and up the back of the engine. That really looks good! I think I'll hang on to mine for awhile and see what happens, then maybe custom make a set to like those above. I'm dying to get my car running well and be able to drive it!

That was my thinking when I picked the under the header config. Do you use this routing or something else?

I'm using taylor 8.2mm. I haven't had any trouble yet, but when I start the engine for the first time this weekend, I may have a different story. I specifically asked for all 90* boots when I ordered from summit, but got a set with two straight boots. One of the straight boots is fine on the #8 plug, it isn't even close to the header. But the other one had to go on #3 and it's only a couple millimeters away from the header. I plan on zip tying it to the #1 wire to keep it as far away as possible, but it's close enough I'm liking the idea of that high temp wrap pictured above by ultraviolet.

reoch999, what headers are you running? I used the two straight boots on #6 and #8 with both Hooker shorties and EM long tubes.
