Default C4 rear end bounce, shocks??

Hi
My 1992 base Vette drives nice, but the rear end seems to "bounce" a bit too much, like the shocks don't have enough rebound dampening. Everything is stock, fairly new KYB shocks, very smooth ride, unlike a Z-51 ride. The suspension will compress as it should, but will rebound too quickly ( my thoughts) Is this normal for these cars? I have thought of using adjustable Koni's or other aftermarket shocks, Edlebrock ISA's

Has anyone noticed this in their cars and is this expected on this model? Thanks for the help!!

I'm not a fan of KYB's, but it could be something's worn out back there.

Jack it up and see if anything is loose.

Gotta be the shocks. If the rearend bounces, they're not doing their job. I used adjustable koni's and was very happy with them.

If it bounces back up, I would say they are doing their job. I went from z51 to base with brandnew KYB's and they are too soft for my taste. aslong as the car is not floating, if it is just coming right back up from a bump then they are fine, even the KYB's are a little bit performance it is a vette not a luxury cruiser.

old is "fairly new"? I have KYBs on my 91 and it rides fine.

Default Rear end bounce C4

Hi and thanks for the replies!! I realize the car is considered a sports car and may ride as such. My '91 with the Z-51 option was really tight, you felt everything when driving, I had to lower the tire PSI to soften up the ride some. I'm a "old" guy and my kidneys and back can only take so much, LOL.

But, with my ZX10-R the factory settings were very harsh (sport bike) set for track use. I had to adjust the F&R to make it usable on the street. That being said, I have noticed new leaf springs in Vette catalogs to reduce the "bounce" or "hop" I am experiencing.

If this is "normal" for this model?? I can understand, it may be the spring rate and better shocks may compensate. The rear end just seems to travel a bit too much during normal driving. It feels like a truck with a heavy load and the shocks are bad, "spongy" may be a better term.

I will look into better shocks, but I was just curious if this may be normal for this model.

yep spongey means they are shot, the kyb's I replaced were like that, and the new ones are better, but not by much. I could compress them with my hands, and I may be alittle stronger than the average guy, but to me that is too soft to be under a car. go with a new one, or a better one. new kyb's are probably good enough if you like a softer ride, but they won't travel as much as the old ones.

Get the adjustable Koni's. You can adjust the shocks to your exact requirements and comfort. If you want to autocross, just crank them up. If they are too harsh, soften them up.
