Small Base Circle Cam Dimensions
Can someone tell me what is the diameter of the stock base circle cam and what are the diameters of the other options.
Thanks,
Jake

I have always specified the base circle when ordering billet cams for the roller LT1 stroker motors following a mock-up clearance check of the crank and rods with a known camshaft base circle diameter to achieve the minimum rod/cam clearance with maximum base circle diameter. The reason for me is that the common standard .900" small base circle cams out set the lifter too far down in the dogbone guides for my taste on roller blocks to within a 1/16" of coming out of the guide. The billet cams can be ground to just about any dimension specified to a point. I had my last 2 cams ordered ground to 1.030" to 1.040" giving me about .075" rod to cam clearance. A few of the standard stock cast base circle SBC roller cams I have measured seem to vary slightly but if I remember right, their about 1.125" to 1.150" base circle. The surface hardness depth on cam cores is something else that they consider and look at when grinding to specific and smaller dimensions so you don't lose the surface hardness. Jake, did that Comp cam I sold you last year work out for you ok?
