As you can see, I drilled and tapped the boss at the location where the temp sensor currently resides, and put a draincock where the temp sensor formerly was present.

Prior to removing the stock pump earlier today, after draining the radiator, a point came when I had to take out the temp sensor from the location at which the draincock in my rig is presently dsposed. At that stage, I got about a quart and a half of additional coolant pissing out. Arrrgh. I hate glycol.

With the draincock installed as shown, my expectation is that when I ever want to do a thermostat swap, I'll just hook a hose on the draincock and leak it into a jug. Also , same applies should I ever need to swap out Meziere's motor.

The temp gauge will now of course read the temp of coolant going into the heads, as opposed to previously when it was reading coolant temp exiting the block.

All comments are welcome - I like negative ones because it is by disagreement that we often learn.

In the worst case, I can remove the draincock and relocate the temp sensor to its orig position and put a plug in that hole. But for now, I think its a dammmned good rig. !!

Looks like a pretty cool idea - it'll be interesting to see what difference the temperature sensor location makes.

My guess is that I'll see richer mixtures, but STL94, whom I highly respect, has opined it is not likely to have an influence.

Still, I think that draincock is going to come in freakin handy on a lot of occasions, especially when servicing the t'stat or swapping mez's motor.

Clearly, the GM engineers had that boss cast in there just for us !! )
