Default fuel sending unit ????

1990 C4 L98
105,5XX

Are fuel sending units year specific, or are they interchangeable between the C4 series? Thanks for letting me know. Haven't bought one yet, still looking for the good deal.

I think there is only one. Have you tried to make your existing one work again?

Cleaning the harness connectors with electric parts contact cleaner may fix an inop sending unit. Pulling the unit out and removing the crud from the windings may fix it too. You can use a simple analog ohm meter to test it when it's out. Just don't break any of those little wires in the windings.

I looked at trying to remove it yesterday, just to get an idea of how it will come out, and.. exactly how to you remove the fuel door and the plastic bezel around the filler? haha.

Just raise the door like you're putting in gas. There is no need to remove it.

The rubberlike boot around the filler neck slides off with some finessing. (Gas cap off)

The top of the tank's access plate bolts are then exposed and easy to remove.

I recommend you get a new gasket $10 or so from any of the catalogs.

And a new sock available from any parts store for cheap.

Oh yeah I also put on a longer water drain hose. I don't think the one I found on mine could have been right at only 3-4" long.
