I'm a new vette owner, i just picked up a a 1986 coupe with 78,000 miles.
it has been sitting for some time and I have changed the fluid's plugs wires cap, fuel filter. and has not started it turns over and starts when you pour fuel into the throttle body. after reading the forums I'm going to now replace the ECM. I dont have a code reader and would like to know what codes are in the computer, any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated .
You should first purchase the FSM to be able to trouble shoot it. Why is it you are going to replace the ECM?
Do not start throwing parts at it. Use a paper clip to read the codes if there are any. Use the advanced seach funtion for more info on the paer clip method
Perhaps Agent 86 will happen upon this and post a link for you
Why are you set on replacing the ECM? You say it starts if you give it fuel.Sounds more like a fuel delivery problem.Do you have fuel pressure at the rail? Are the injectors firing?
Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key to RUN. That's the first ignition switch position. You should hear the pump for 2-3 seconds. If not check your Fuel pump fuse. Check this and get back to us.
My brother in law with out my knowledge took the wires off the cap and block and rewired he believes that the passenger side goes 1-3-5-7 from front to back 2-4-6-8 from front to back. little help with that, and i hear the fuel pump click on for a second and also smell fuel when i crank the motor. that's all i got so far.
bummed out right now, but thanks for the help guys.

Buy, rent, or borrow a gauge. You first need to know if you have sufficient fuel pressure, to allow it to run. Then your going to have to see if the injectors are actually trying to inject. A noid light is required to test the injector signal. http://members.shaw.ca/corvette86/Fu...mDiagnosis.pdf
i didnt get a pressure gauge yet, but the car ran today for about 1min with the help of little starter fluid, when I hit the gas very little it bogged out and that was it. the low coolant light is on and the ABS light flashes 3 times and then turns off. Also the volts display is red next to the numbers if that means anything. also the shrader valve didnt have pressure after i cranked the motor
