Default What shocks do you use?

I need to replace the shocks on my 89.I realise the bilsteins(currently fitted are a premium shock but are leaking badly) with a shock that is suitable for a DD.What do you have fitted and are the KYB gas-a-just a reasonable shock?

I have had B's on a z51 and I have now had 2 sets of KYB's on my vert. The old ones were too soft, and the bew ones are fine for daily driver, ubt not to be compared to others on a track, I would imagine.

I can't see your shocks, obviously, but I've seen Bilstein shocks mis-diagnosed as leaking a few times. Some I suspect were just techs looking for more money.

It is perfectly normal for some oil on the outside of the shock and it will collect dirt.

Do the shocks still dampen correctly?

BTW if you buy Bilstein shocks they are lifetime waranty. (doesn't count for the OEM shocks on new cars only if you buy them aftermarket.)

For the money and ride, the KYB is hands down the winner....

The others may perform better, but you pay for it.

I got my Tokico's off an ebay seller and they were about the same as the KYB's, and the KYB is not suitable for a Z-51 car which mine is.

I have Bilsteins and I have no choice with the FX3

I dont think there is any way you could spend $700 on shocks like I did

Now, A) not everyone will find shocks on ebay...that damned "used" factory always seems to be on strike when I'm looking.....B) Don't say suitable, I have an 84...which in stock form is equal to an '85 Z-51......The KYBs work just fine....handling is not my cars issues.

I am also looking to put new shocks on my '93. I do autocross, so I was thinking QA1s because this car is also my DD.

Has anyone ever noticed if there's a difference in ride height with Bilsteins as compared to the KYB's?

I didn't notice one when I pulled the KYB's off in favor of the Bilsteins....but there was a huge improvement in ride quality.

Right after I got my '88 I replaced the worn out factory shocks with KYB's cause they were cheap. I think i'm ready to switch back to the Blsteins.
