Default Power Brake problem

Today I think something in my power brakes has gone out. The symptoms are brake light on information panel comes on when I push on the brakes, the brake pedal goes all the way to the firewall. Brakes still work but I seem to have lost the power side of it. Is there any way to determine which component has gone bad?? The booster, the master cylinder piston?? without just replacing parts to cure the problem? My car is a 1986 coupe with ABS. Also the brake fluid res is full. There is vacume if I pull the line off the booster and check the line. Also with the brake vac line off should the motor almost die?

If it were the booster the pedal would be very hard to push and I don't think you'd see any brake fault light.

Yeah if you open up a huge vacuum leak like the line to the booster the engine will stutter.

Inspect the caliper pistons for leaks.

The pedal goes very easy to the firewall so I guess the booster is okay. Maybe the master cyl piston??
I don't see any fluid seeping from the calipers. Do they make a rebuild kit for master cyl's??

Sounds Like the master which is common, but do you see any fluid leaking ?also check the rubber lines to the calipers to see if there leaking.

Rubber brake lines are dry and the res is still full. Thinking its the master more and more.

Follow "Case's" suggestion....Get a set of "Speed Bleeders" and do a full bleed. Might do the trick.
