Default Problems 1985 Corvette

My name is Shandre, i am from Aruba. I own a 1985 corvette (C4) which is giving me a lot of headache recently. The car isn't a daily driver but ran like a champ.

The problem:
Out of nowhere the car begins to idle rich won't rev up if i hit the throttle. If the car is cold the car would run (won't rev up) and when it's hot it won't run at all. We have run a diagnostic and it says NO ERROR CODES.

Does anyone have an idea of what it could be?

thanks for the quick reply,

Even if the car runs "rich" at idle, because black (fuel) smoke comes out of the exhaust???

Yes done that, we have tried to "clear" any problem that may had been saved in the ECM, but without any result...

Pull the vacuum line from fuel reg and check the line for any signs of fuel.

When my fp was going out it wouldnt respond over 2500rpm and when i would let off i could hear backfire as well as see a puff of smoke where it burned really rich for a second liek trying to catch up

On a side note check your Idle control valve
mines spring was busted and that compounded with the fp going out made all my problems

with others, it sounds fuel related. Check your injectors and testing the ohms. Pull the electrical plugs and put leads on the contacts and see what you get. A healthy injector should read about 16 ohms. Anything drastically less is a bad injector and could be leaking causing it to run rich. Agent 86 also has a good idea, its likely the rubber diaphragm inside the regulator is deteriorated and could be leaking. The stock one in my '85 was leaking like this not long after I bought it.

ill have a fuel pressure regulator for sale soon.

I knew mine was fuel so started the shotgun method.
Fp regulator. then ICV. then injectors. the fuel pump and filter.
runs perfect now

Could be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. If you new someone else with an older L98 C4 you could swap the out to see if it takes care of the problem. My 85 was running rich and that was the problem.

Not to be disagreeable, but..

What's the One component that will function OK when cold, deteriorate to completely inoperative when hot (if it's dying), will limit RPM and cause misfire at idle, has Nothing to do with fuel and is Not part of the ECM diagnostics (no code will set, at least in an OBD1 system).

Answer - the ignition coil.

I'm just saying..

Just had it happen to me! Also had similar problem and it was the oxygen sensor, never set codes.

Well, today we have checked the fp and everything seems to be working fine.

One thing that i've noticed is that the burnoff relay was missing, also i get a 5V on signal wire e.g. water temperature sensor (yellow wire), the middle wire of the TPS

I am afraid that the ECM is burned or that there is a shortage in the circuit,

any ideas?
