LT1 Auto trans acting up

LT1 Auto trans acting up
'96 Collector Edition, LT1 4L60E auto, 128,000miles
I drove about 45 minutes today on the highway at about 70 when I noticed my tans temp was at 247, I've never seen it that high. This it with very light driving (unusual for me......) So I pulled over and let the car cool down. After that to get home I was at ~ 55mph with a few stop lights. It stayed around 235 until the very end (30 minuets later) where it climbed up to the 240s again. Got it home alright.
Also, for about the past week, right around 50 when the car shifts to 4th under light throttle, it kind of bounces/revs between about 1200/1500rpm maybe 3 or four times before truly engaging 4th. I've checked the fluid, it seems like it could be high but I'm honestly having trouble reading where the fluid stops on the stick. The fluid itself is very clean, tho I changed it at 117,000 (when I bought the car) And the old fluid that was drained seemed to be what I would expect as well.
Is something wrong? just a fluke? Does this happen often?
