Thanks for all the input. Last oil change they didn't put the filter on that I gave them that I used when I changed my oil myself, and I noticed a big difference in the oil when I would check it. I didn't really think there was a big difference before that incident.

OK, I'm confused already. So OrangeC4, what were you trying to say here?
I had a bad problem with the ac filters I got. I used to use upf1218. That's supposed to be better than the regular 1218. One of the ones I got had stripped threads and metal filings inside the filter. And there was no indication that this filter had ever been put on an engine so I think it came out of the factory that way. Another one I got had some kind of awful gunk around the base of the gasket. I don't know where that came from. It had not been put on an engine either. I stick with Fram HP4 filters. They look a lot stronger to me than any ac filters. But, like was first posted, "you are going to get a lot of answers here".
I use a Mobil 1 M1-202 filter ($11.49) on my car in combination with Mobil 1 5W-30 oil. My average oil pressure went up about 10psi when switching to this filter.
I use the AC UPF25 GOLD filter. Its one of the best. It has great filtering qualities and high flow rate. A while back someone on the forum i think, did an indepth study on filters and rated the AC GOLD and MOBIL 1 the highest. However the dealer told me that GM in not making the Gold filters anymore because no one was buying them at 10 bucks a pop. GM also never advertized them! STUPID. You can still order them untill they run out. I picked up 3. When I run out I'll just use the Mobil 1 filter. By the way I also use Mobil 1 5w30 fully synthetic oil. If your not using synthetic oil your motors wearing out.
For years I've used the AC Delco Duraguard PF35L with my Red Line oil. It has a synthetic filter element that traps particles down to 8 microns and is taller than the OE PF25. Taller means it holds more oil and has greater filter surface area. The down side is that it hangs down lower than the OE filter but my headers, frame rails and body panels are there to protect it. :D
The PF35L was the only oil filter that Lingenfelter sold when he used to sell oil filters (none in his current catalog). They're expensive but if you have a friendly GM parts guy it can ease the pain. My last invoice said "List $16.92" but he sold it to me for $11.00
Am I missing why this filter isn't any good or is everyone else missing how good it really is????? :smash:

 ...I've been using a plain ole AC Delco Duraguard+Mobil 1, 5w30 synthetic...how and why did your oil pressure go up 10psi? and why do you need more oil pressure than what is required by the engine...tell me and I'll change...is the Duraguard not a good filter?...

What I was trying to say was. I gave them a filter to put on when I dropped my car off, and they used some real cheap brand instead. I have been using AC before, and thats what I gave them to put on. I check my oil after every 300 miles, and noticed that the oil was getting bad and ended up changing my oil after only 1000 miles. I told the people that changed my oil when I last had my oil changed, and he told me that the filter might have had a hand in it. That is when I found out that the place before didn't use the filter that I gave them. Does that make better sense?
I've heard from experienced mechanics that Wix filters are the best. These are the ones that Catepillar's use and are supposed to be well-made. TPIS sells Donaldson brand which may be worth inquiring about since running a high-performance engine. Most oil filters are good down to 10 microns where a few are good down to 5 microns.
There are some articles in consumer reports and other various car mags in case you care to research this.
I was at an auto trade show several years ago and they took several different brands of filters and opened them up and the Wix filter was definitely well built. Some had very little filtering element to their filters and some had cheap anti drain valves. After seeing these filter completely opened up I have been using the Wix filters ever since.
