Default gas tank pressure

my gas tank suddenly has a lot of pressure when i take the gas cap off, i can even hear the gas tank pop back to its normal size. If i really step on the gas i can suddenly smell gas fumes in the car. Anyone have an idea what is causing this? is it the vacuum system? the vacuum hose that goes to the tank, does this have vacuum coming from the tank or pressure going to the tank?

There is no vacuum hose going to the fuel tank. There is a vapor recovery line that goes to the charcoal canister. The only time vacuum is used is to purge the canister when the engine is running.

Your line from the tank to the canister is probably plugged.

I ran a new purge line. Solved the problem.

The constant return fuel system used on C4s heats the gasoline (runs through the fuel rails and back to the tank) and is one of the reasons most of the new GM V8 models have fuel rails don't have a return line.

Check the rubber hoses in the wheelwell behind the drv seat.Rust from the steel purge lines drops down there and blocks the lines.
If you remove the vent line at top of tank (LHS ) and at the canister you should be able to through blow line .

the cap might be bad, wouldn't hurt to replace it.
