I am running around 200F while moving and at a stop it may rise to 219F That concerns me. Is it high. I think my fan may not be coming on. any thoughts?
Seems kind of high to me, But I am not sure on the 89 vette, I own an 84 & the fan comes on at 195.. & hits 200 for a sec but goes right back down, Never gets that hot when I'm movin...
I believe the L98 1989 came with a 195 T-stat so your temps sound about right just make sure the fan comes on @ 227*. Let it idle up and check the fan operation, fan should also come on with AC in operation.

That's not normal. Main fan on the 1989 comes on at 228* and aux fan (if you have one) is 236*. I put a lower temp on switch/sensor at 200* on my aux fan.
When moving, your coolant temp should be able to run close to the opening temp (couple degrees) of your thermostat. 200 is too hot but not harardous, and this tells me that you need to clean the debris out of your radiator. C4's are road vacuum cleaners and straw, cig butts, and all manor of debris jam into the radiator. You will be surprised, both by how much junk is in the radiator and how much cooler your engine runs when you clean the radiator out. I have been driving an 87 every day for 20 years, THATS how I know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take your radiator out and clean it, assuming it doesn't need burping.
