Default Fuel Pump Suggestions

Hey all,

Looks like I'm gonna have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump in my L98 IROC-Z. Any suggestions? The car is mostly stock, although we might do some minor upgrades.

Any help is appreciated!

Tony

You would more likely get responses on a Camaro board.

Actually, people have been very helpful so far......its the same motor, so what would be the difference?

You may consider our Walbro kit with 190LPH GSS242M pump here:

Thanks

Based off my experience with my 91 Firebird, I'd say you should buy tank straps and forget those you have. Soak the retaining bolts with penetrating oil 2 days before.

The motor may be the same but the tank is completely different

Not really. Exactly the same thing. Both have an internal fuel pump and gauge sender, both hold fuel and both are held in place.

Since you paid more for a Vette, you get to have an access port. In the F-body, you have to cut a hole in the body to get easy access to the pump. A good Oxyacetylene torch and Bubba should have it cut in no time. Try not to let Bubba smoke during the procedure.

It's not that hard ... Just buy a stock replacement pump, you dont seem to have enough mods to warrant a higher dollar aftermarket pump. Be careful with the filler neck they can bend easy and cause fuel to leak all the time. buy new tank strap isolation pads before starting most replace the worn out stuff with some sort of felt like material from hardware stores. Make sure the sending unit O-ring is seated before putting tank back in or you will have an ungodly amount of fuel odor. Also replace the rubber hose that connects the pump to the main fuel line inside the tank. they develop hairline cracks and when they do fuel pressure drops and leans the living hell out of the engine. Had a TBI car do that an it would light the pipe from after the cat all the way to the muffler to a brilliant orange color.

I got a Walbro. It's a very good fuel pump. It wasn't more expensive than the stock replacement.

This looks pretty much like what I am looking for. I assume this will drop right in with no mods. How does this compare to the volume of a stock pump? Also, do you sell the pulsator? If I pull the tank, I'm replacing everything......

Most factory C4 pumps are in the 125-140LPH range. You do not require a pulsator with the Walbro pumps. It is removed and replaced with the supplied rubber hose. Wiring is PnP.

Sorry to be a pain, but it looks like all I need is this kit for my IROC-Z. Do need anything else? If not, I'll purchase it tomorrow so I can have it by the weekend and drop it in. Where are you all located?

Your IROC would require a different pump kit.
Please check our web store www.racetronix.biz for our F-Body pump kits.

Thanks.
