I thought I could ID about any small block but am stumped on one.
Block pad reads:
V0812TXB
C7F300158
Block casting number 3970010
From the above I know it was cast at Flint on Aug 12 (other sources pin it to 1975). 300158 is the VIN sequence but what the heck is C7F?
Nothing I can find has this format. Anyone have a clue?
FWIWI can't read the casting date off the block.

Reason: edit to correct engine code
010 blocks are a good foundation. some have higher nickel content. i have had a few. my last one had world sportsman heads and liked to see 7200 on the tach . www.mortec.com is a GREAT source of info for all casting # questions.
TXF
That is the identifier.
Tells what Hp , chassis and trans engine had when fitted at factory
Block casting # means little;
"010" blocks used for pass car (2 bolt ) and truck / HiPo (4 bolt ) Used in engines from 165 -370Hp.
Can't find TXF ,
but TXC , TXD ,TXH - K used in 1975 C-20 to 3500 , 4 bolt , 165Hp
If you look at the 3 letter codes, pre '79 anything from a truck seems to start with a T and ones from cars ,a C
