My 91 vet is giving me problems on starting, it will start for about 5 second, if I let it sit overnight, then dies out like its starving for gas, it has a new fuel pump, new gas filter, and it has spark. If i try to start it again the motor will just turn over not firing at all. It is an auto. and I have no codes showing. If anybody has any ideas what to check next, please, please, help. Tony
Thanks for the info Paul, it is appreciated. But it seems I have just one other problem now, if I just turn the key it will not start, if I pump it a couple of times it will run after I keep reving it a little and then it will idle and run perfect, any ideas? Thanks.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the end of the right fuel rail, turn on the ign sw to run for more than 2 seconds, then off. Watch the fuel pressure, it should hold for a long time. If the pressure drops rapidly, then most likely you have leaky injector/s which cause too rich mixture during idle to stay running and hard starting. New injectors are indicated at that point.

He could also have a bad ck valve at the fuel pump if it leaks down.
Ok JFB, put the tester on and it held for about 5 minutes and then it started slowly dropping, I would say about 2 lbs every two minutes, is this calling for new injectors? Thanks for everybodys input, I needed it. Tony
I think GM says 1 lb in 30 minutes. Another symptom of leaky injectors is to smell your exhaust, it will obviously smell rich and have black smoke. Also, pull a couple of spark plugs, maybe all of them, they should look white, not dark colored. Black plugs is running too rich and probably leaky injectors. Also, wet with gasoline plugs is a red flag.

Opening the throttle past 25% TPS cuts off the injectors ( also lets in more air ) because the ECM thinks you are trying to clear a flooded engine ; which is what you have if the injectors are leaking down.
Time for Mr FIC again
Jon could probably stay in business with the work he gets from this Forum alone
