Shifter **** Removal

Anyone know how to remove the shifter **** (Automatic) so that the console from a 84 can be removed?

Jim....gently pry up the shift **** button. Remove the C shaped clip inside, and the **** comes right off.

1 small screwdriver GENTLY pry off **** button
2 use snap ring pliers and remove snap ring that holds **** on
3 remove ****
