Default 93 vette problems

I have just take possesion of beautiful 93 red corvette, traded harley for it.

Everything works fine except for two things, would like to know if there is anything I could do that might fix these things.

Push button for cruise nothing happens, could this be a fuse problem?

When a/c is on it will blow out through to the floor but no where else. Heat I believe to be the same (have not checked). When I push the buttons for air to come through the upper vents the light comes on indicating that the button was pushed, but air does not route to where button has been pushed. Is this a vacuum line or maybe another fuse problem or what.

thanks for looking, and hope for a cure

I think both problems are related to a vacuum leak. Remove the passenger side fuel rail cover. It snaps off if you gently pull up on it. Look at the vacuum lines on that side of the intake. Replace anything suspect.

Welcome to the madness!

Default vacuum line

I went to the local auto store, they did not have a vacuum line, tried to use a gas line. I guess the vacuum line is more ridgid then a gas line.

The gas line I believe sucked shut, I think in any case the gas line would no solve the problem

It would be rare for the line itself to be the problem. Usually it is the "F"" shaped plastic fitting under the pass side fuel rail cover that gets brittle and breaks.

Default plastic f

could not find plastic (f ) I took the passenger side cover off to find it but found instead found a very small orifice leading away from engine that seemed to be for a small hose but the orifice had a hose attached with the end of the hose only one inch long having a screw stuck in it to close it off.

Found two other little lines that were just laying there not going anywhere, and had small openings at the end do not if they were vaccum line or not. These lines ended where there was nothing to plug them in to. Hope this discription helps someone to help me further again thanks

I think the screw is holding the place for the missing F.

Trace the lines you found. If one goes to the firewall (HVAC) and the other goes to driver side after the ASR module and before the battery (cruise control) then we have a winner.

Can you tell me the name of this (f) piece so I can go to the chevy garage and ask for it by name?

I don't have a part number or propper name for it. All it is is a one into two adapter. A "Y" would work as well. I think you'll wind up with a generic. I'll search for a picture or take one later.

I have a plastic wrapped tube that travels to this area. Protruding from the tubing are two what I will guess to be small vacuum lines.

Therefore in an ealier post as to where they come from, or go I cannot tell.

There are two nipples protruding from the block area, that would accomadate the two coming from the plastic tube. However, the lower protruding nipple aleady has a tube connected to it that leads to what looks like a vaccum advance. That said, I now have three tubes in the area, and only two places to attach tubes to.
The picture does not show three tubes. If it does I am unable to see the connection. Is there a tube in the mix that does not get connected. or is there a place where two tubes connect to the same nipple.

Sorry to keep bothering you, but with my luck a quick and easy fix simply does not happen.

The barrel type fitting seen in picture is what I do not have. The tubes I have cannot be made to stretch to reach the nipple. So I will need something bridge the gap.

I hope the barrel looking thing is not necessary for operation, being some kind of a mixing apparatus.

I will be waiting, if picture taker could move things around and take other angle pictures it would help me no end

The part # for the "T" seems to be 14056648. You can find it @ http://www.qualitygmparts.com/index....products_id=63.

The barrel looking thing is a check valve. It sounds like the infamous "F" fitting broke and the previous owner bypassed it. That is a good reason why your HVAC and cruise systems aren't working.

90% of the time with the cruise control, it is the vacuum line that runs from the CC to the brake pedal. Which was what my problem was, mine rotted right at the CC, so I cut the bad piece off and it worked for a while.
Had to replace that hose and it is not hard, but it is a pain. You have to route the new hose threw the firewall and if you have headers(like me) it is a easy but time consuming job.

Which A/C system do you have, the C68(electronic) or the manual one(*****)?

Either one points to a vacuum leak.

I went to the chevrolet garage the piece I needed was discontinued.

Parts man fixed it with some fittings and a little bit of hose.

The hose on the other side that was in bad shape was the horseshoe shaped hose its on order.

What the parts guy did, fixed the cruise and the ac

I do not know which ac I have.

Glad it is fixed. You have automatic climate control if it is all just push button. I am amazed that part is discontinued as it was the same for all years of the LT1 and in every application.

ps- the horseshoe shaped hose is for your pcv system, put a new valve in too.

The all-black fitting has been discontinued, but the replacement is a standard GM part that's mostly white/clear plastic. They should have them in-stock since they're used on a bunch of GM models. I just bought one and found this out. The parts guy apparently isn't paying attention and missing the superceded part #.

You can also order the PCV hose from Ecklers (PN 51806) $10 or TLD (PN 573359) $7.
