Default cranking - no injector pulse

1991 L98 auto - no start.

did all the stupid tests first. 44psi @ rails, have spark on all 8, car starts on starting fluid then is drivable.

noid light on injector harness = no pulse while cranking but pulses as normal when car is fired on starting fluid.

wiring problem? ecm? a sensor?

harness appears to be in good condition, never had electrical gremlins.

could be a shorted injector shutting down the ECU. get an ohm meter and test the injectors 1 at a time. They should be 16ohms.. if any are below 6ohms leave that one disconnected and try to start engine.. if you have 3 or 4 that low don't do anything, it wont start on less than 5 injectors. If thats it you will have to replace the injectors.

Just had a car that was doing this same thing, wouldn't light the nod light while cranking. Replaced the ECM and it fired right up..this could be your problem if its not the injectors like Jon says...WW

Been gone a while, Scorp?

L98's all batch fire and first of the LT1"s ; SD 92 -93
the '94+ with MAF got sequential

To the OP
The ECM also has to see the pulse signal from the distributor to fire the injectors while cranking

Hehe yep. I've been in OT for a few months after a 15 month absence, just starting to hit C4 Tech again. I've forgotten so much it sucks. Thanks for the answer though! For some reason I thought when the L98 went to MAP it also changed to sequential.

Make sure to check the simple too. My tach signal from the distributor had come loose and wasn't making a connection. I hunter for too long, trying other things first when this happened to mine, before I found the simple loose connection at the distributor. Always check the simplest first before you go spending money on the exotic solutions.
