Replacing leaking lower intake gaskets.
Removed my plenum and runners.......have not yet removed the base yet. Need to be cleaned......is Hydrofloric acid ok to soak them in? Is there somthing else I should soak them in?? I am going to do this before I port the plenum......have not decided on siamesing the runners?
Any ideas appreciated on cleaners and siamesing the runners!

Re: Plenum, runners are off........ (KNCRSR5R)
Try to get all of the water that may be in the intake base out before you remove it. Also, if your intake isn't very clean, try to vacuum up any dust etc you can before pulling the base so as to minimise the amount of crud you have to pull out of the valley (you will have some stuff fall in when you pull the base) - also pulling the base will take some effort before it wants to budge... Also, just in case - make sure you mark the distributors position before you remove it (sorry if I'm stating the obvious).
Acid should be okay, I've used degreaser and since then have found you could probably use mag wheel cleaner as a milder alternative although acid will probably give the best results.
Lastly, I'd clean stuff AFTER I ported it, you will have to clean any metal filings out afterwards so save yourself having to clean it twice.
As for siamesing, do your homework before you make the first cut. I remember this was a hot topic for a while but people have quietened down about it lately and I'm not sure if there is a reason for that. Initially I read it may cause excessively lean mixtures (if I recall correctly) but never looked into it further because I wasn't too keen to try it myself.

Been there done that. I recommend doing BOTH before and after cuz the shavings "stick" stubbornly to the grime. They "cling" less to clean Al.

You've noticed it too huh? I ruined a stock base by too much porting causing reversion in the 5/7 intake tract. Also, yes, the EGR gasses did dilute the mixture to too lean. (suggestion to Erik: don't take out much wall in the 5/7 tract)
I ended up buying the Edelbrock intake seen in the link in Dtorc4's post above. It stops breathing at around 4800RPM
I don't recommend HCL for cleaning your parts. I agree, try a degreaser of take them to be hot tanked.
I'm in Phoenix, AZ for a short and just picked up a set of LT runners at AS&M in Chandler, AZ. After inspecting the product I pulled out my plastic and charged the $395 for the set. They should provide a 45% increase in flow potential based on runner diameter and they look like stock, from the outside.
I'm still trying to find a used base to try that Siamesed base trick on.
