engine problem after changing water pump
I have a 1984 Corvette which was overheating. After replacing the water pump which required disconnecting the vacuum hoses, electrical harnesses, removing pulleys, vacuum pump and so on the overheating problem was resolved but ever since a list of problems started up. I will give them to you and hopefully someone knows what is going on. The removal of the pump required disconnection of the fuel line outlet.
1. When I start the car in the morning a black smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe and eventually dissipates
2. The idle is very rough and the car shakes and sounds differently. It idles at around 1100rpm and than falls back to around 6-8rpm after the car is put into gear
3. The car runs very smoothly when cold but becomes very lazy once it warms up and the tone of the exhaust changes
4. The throttle response changes once the car is driven and the engine heats up. It becomes unresponsive and feels like the car is dying and suddenly the throttle will kick in.
5. When car heats up and I leave it standing than restart it the engine kicks in and than immediately dies. It takes about 3 tries and stepping heavy on the gas to get it to kick in. Once it fires the car won't die again.
This only started after changing the water pump. Again no overheating issues that problem was solved. Car runs at an oil temp of about 118 degrees Celcius and coolant temp ranges from mid 90s to low 100s in degrees Celcius.
I would appreciate any help as to what may be happening.
Thanks
