I am doing the water pump on my 87 and I have to remove the compressor mounting bracket to get the wp out. I have removed all the bolts I can find and its still mounted solid as a rock. Ok this is where I am, I have removed the two nuts at the wp and the nut at the manifold support to the back side of the compressor, I have removed the idler. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!where is it, I know its got to be there??? :cry
Theres a hidden torx bolt under the front of the compressor at the bottom.
Look at the A/C compressor pulley in front..see how it has a slot? Turn the slot where its down on the bottom at the 6 O'clock position and beneath there is a Torx bolt under the compressor you must remove...when the torx bolt comes out far enough, its slotted on one side and will have to align it with the compressor slot and get it out that way.
Its a PITA!!!
Careful not to strip this torx bolt, its a hard to find bolt and GM doesnt sell them anymore.
:)
I don't have the bigger sizes of torxs, I guess it's time. Looked at them at Sears and they were 40 bucks for the large size set. That was for five or six of them. I guess if I'm gonna play I'm gonna have to pay. Thanks for the help all.
