hey there guys i just installed a new engine its a 355 with world heads im useing a 533-563 lift cam and thats with the 1.6 rockers on the car the rockers are the stamped steel ones im getting a rocker noise where it sounds like the rockers are loose but there not and the car is running really good im just seeing if this noise is normal or what cuz like i said the engine is running really good just haveing a noise
Im not familiar with the rockers you have but Roller Rockers are known to make noise , some of them a lot of noise, If there not roller rockers they should be no louder then the ones that where stock. If its a new engine with new injectors sometimes certain injectors can produce a very loud ticking that sounds just like lifters ticking , just a thought....WW
Did you check the rocker geometry after putting non stock parts on ??
My 355 with decked block, shaved heads, roller rockers, stainless valves, etc, required pushrods .250" shorter than stock to get the rocker sweep, in the center of valve.
Food for thought
thats a lot of lift for a stamped rocker. did you get the long slot ones? i personally would pop one off and see if the rocker is hitting the stud on the slot area just to be safe.
The valve train noise issue comes up all the time It's usually a running thread on all of the six or more Forums I visit. Some claim it's the rockers, others say it's the lifters, etc., etc. Differing results are posted based on brand of rockers with some saying Pro Mags are noiser than others. Setting lesser preload can be a factor too.
I suspect the noise is generated by two parts hitting together, perhaps ever-so-slightly. To isolate exactly where, you'd have to start right where the roller of the lifter meets the cam lobe and work your way up all the way to where the valve sets down on the valve seat. Anything in between can be the cause.
A couple of weeks ago I installed Scorpion 1.7/1.65 RRs on a custom ground CompCams HR using their CRC lobes (based on XE profiles) and stock lifters; my son's valvetrain is silent.
