Sometimes the LCD dosnt power on at all, when it does, the whole display pulsates like a blinker?? The battery sometimes has a slow drain when the LCD lights up.
Anybody have a similar problem, any ideas??

Sounds like the cluster's power supply is shot.

Dosnt the power come from the battery? I got into the dash and pulled the cluster out, i replaced the top circuit board with one from my old unit. It works now but is very temperamental, if it bumps anything or gets moved its lights out, and turns completely off

The cluster has its own power supply housed within the cluster to drive the solid state stuff.....this power supply is driven by the car's 12 volt battery. The car battery also powers other portions of the cluster to include the back lighting. The power supply for the cluster is on the back circuit board towards the metal vented plate in on the back. The power supply is mounted to the old circuit card you replaced but it sounds as if the new circuit board has a problem as well either at one of the 2 connectors or within the PCB itself. Take a close look at the PCB card your removed and take a really look at the big capacitors mounted on the back side and you may find the problem with your origional card. It might be simpler to just remove (solder removal required)the good power supply from your "new' card and stick it (soldering is required) on your old card...then reinstall your old card back in the cluster. These clusters aren't that tough to figure out or fix if you know what to look for. Here is a pretty good site to help you with your repair process:http://www.batee.com/corvette/dcrg/repair.htm
Have fun...just take your time with it.

well Dan, you dont have a very complete user info set up (like what kind of car you have), but I am guessing that is an 84-88 right? When your LCD starts pulsing, you have some 'cold' connections. Very common in the older cars to get some cold connections due to vibrations breaking the solder. A rebuild of the dash cluster will be in order. There is a great DIY on the forum, I will look it up for you and post it.

here you go:http://www.batee.com/corvette/dcrg/repair.htm

oops, my bad for not reading through the above posts, good call engle! This is the best DIY i've found!!
