I'm looking for any tips, tricks or advice. I have removed the old weather stripping around the windshield and door posts, all one piece.
Cleaned out all of the old crap, way too much time spent.
Now I need to install the new one with 3m adhesive. I have done a dry test of the install and it looks like it will need a bit of work to install it properly!
Advice, tips, or tricks would be appreciated!

Should I leave the weather stripping taped up or can I close the doors and the soft top to apply pressure to the weather stripping for a better seal?
I used to have a GM video (sold it...sorry) that was a step by step H20 leak diagnosis/repair for C4 Vettes. The video was awesome - it was only about 30 minutes in length but had a ton of quality info for gasket install, alignment & adjustment for the entire cabin area. I'm preparing to change the same gasket on my '89 in few weeks....here is the basic plan.
Clean the old gasket off removing or repairing(if needed) the hardware on the pillars & removing any oxidation/rust on the mounting surfaces.
Dry fit the gasket then mark it various locations with masking tape on both the car and the gasket to help with the initial aligment after the "glue" is applied.
Install the gasket and position/reposition the gasket while the "glue" is still workable....and adjusting the "upper" window stops if needed.
Thanks I'm going to need the luck part I think! I will take your advice on the marking with the tape, I had it on last night for a dry fit, now i'll do it again!
I just did my A and B pillars on my 87. When I removed the old w/s, there was no glue at all in the channels, only at the ends. The channels looked as if there had never been any glue in them. Having had prior experience with getting the glue/sealer where I didn't want it and having to remove and reinstall some w/s on other cars, I used the glue/sealant very sparingly. It seemed to me that the w/s fit very tight in the channels and when the targa top was on, those areas of the w/s fit pretty tight. So far so good. Just my 2 cents.
also, work from the center (of the windshield) out, be careful not to stretch it.
When I did my 89 coupe last month everything I read said to start at the corners, make sure they were lined up perfect and glued, then to lay the center section down without stretching it and glue that. Mine came out perfect. If you start in the center the corners may not come out right....WW
Using glue in the channel or on the corners is certainly one way of doing it, but glue is not necessary. I used 3M bedding and glazing compound on the corners, no glue anywhere and had no leaks.
It's done, it is a one piece from the bottom of the door post to the bottom of the other door post. It was a little tough doing it by myself but I got it done and I did use the 3M glue, but sparingly. Starting in the middle on the top of the windshield was probably the right place to start, it would have been nice to get a copy of the video mentioned earlier. It did not solve my water leak so I guess now it's the doors and the piece on the door jamb at the knees!
