Default Resonator Removal

Guys:
Anyone remove just their resonator from the stock LT1/LT4 Exhaust. I understand it really improves the sound quality a bit. Just a Tad Louder. Is this True?
Thanx

I replaced mine with a Magnaflow dual in/dual out muffler with the built in X-pipe. About the only difference I could tell was I lost 1/2" ground clearance and my wallet was a bit thinner. This was installed after I had already done the muffler delete and it changed the tone only very slightly. Altogether I would say I wasted some money.

If your running the stock mufflers I would guess it pretty much be a tad louder inside the car. I think that is what the resonator was for. But if you went to a higher flowing muffler, I know some people replace it with an x-pipe or you could put straight pipes as there is a cross-over at the rear of the system.

I did the same thing Amminich did, but my experience was different. I really like the sound and the Magnaflow really helped to round out tone and all but eliminated that dreadful 2500 rpm low gear drone. But it is quite a bit more than a "tad" louder than stock.

Replaced the resonator with an H pipe on the '95; a Y pipe on the '96. Had Magnaflows on the '96. Could not stand the drone and replaced with LT1 outlets from Corvette Central. Much better.

On the '95 the daughter removed these mufflers and put the eliminators on...it is quite loud now......a bit fun to drive....but sure is loud. I'll be putting the LT1 mufflers back on.

If you like alot of drone....make that ALOT of drone, get the Magnaflows.

I think I'll either go with the straight Pipes or an "X".

Great That's what I'm after, In fact,my 84' with the stock LT1 Mufflers and gutted cats sounded inceredible. 60's Vet Sound with No Resonance what so ever.

I wonder how much the Resonator Restricts the Flow?

Had mine removed years ago and straight pipes put in, love the sound. mild when idle and reg driving, meaty beefy when on it.

Also, I had an 84' with Gutted Cats and LT1 Stock Mufflers and I tell you it had the greatest sound. I got all kinds of compliments. I bet when I add the Straight Pipes it will sound similar. Not too loud,No Drone and just great sounding at WOT,
