I'm in the process of doing some work on my 85's engine. Doing some cleanup, changing the cam etc. I'm playing with ideas for deleting the air pump and had been toying with not using a pulley to replace the pump but instead use a shorter belt. The problem was after figuring out the size I needed, how to translate that into a part number. I was playing around on Gates web site and noticed that the belt length for an 85 is 88.9 inches and the last numbers of the part number was 888 (KO60888). So I scrolled through the list of belts and found there was a direct correlation between the last numbers of the part number and the length of the belt. Also as long as you stayed in the same KO60 series you could find whatever length belt of the right width. I'm not sure if this is new information, but thought I'd share it anyway
I believe some here have successfully rotated their alternators up to avoid the need for the delete bracket. I know that doesn't help you with belt length, but maybe someone that's done it will chime in.
i wouldn't rotate the water pump or alternator, they are designed to rotate one way
and not to the other, not sure but i wouldn't do it.-
i guess i will be buying the damn delete pulley !
I just took mine all off, I followed Aardwolf's idea, and grumpyvette from another place.
If you are just removing the smog, I would just buy the pulley, or knock the guts out of the airpump, and put it back as a free pulley.
If your AC doesn't work, like my 85, you could delete the air pump and the AC and not have to use a pulley. Someone said to use a 1982 Vette water pump which turns opposite to the 85 and of course a much shorter belt. There are pictures elsewhere in the C4 section where others have done this.

No,they actually replaced the pump with a normal rotation one.-
i would like to have a summit link to know which specific pumps can be used
for this modifications, and the exact belt to use once deleting AC and AIR by this method (no pulleys)
sorry to bring this up from the dead but:
I need to do this and I am wondering how turning the WP in the wrong direction still works???
The pump doesn't require being turned one direction, the fins inside may flow better being designed to turn one way though. I turned a stock reverse rotation pump the wrong way for more then a year without any trouble. That's at drags, several road course events, and street use. I never saw any difference in coolant temps.
I think those pulley kits are stupid expensive and look silly.

Any WP to suit 71-82 Vette; cast or alum.
Belt length needs to be confirmed after install; variations in alt brace may mean a certain size may not fit yours.
Rodj, be careful when sourcing a pump as they can be slightly longer or shorter. I got one of those years that is slightly shorter and the belt rides pretty far out on the pulley. This is not so big a deal as you can buy or make a water pump pulley spacer. Just a heads up. Some sites like the Edelbrock site show the exact dimensions of the pump and you can easily see the differences.
I've road raced this setup and still have yet to make a spacer, probably get to it this winter. Pic:
