Ok...CEL comes on and I pulled the codes.I have a 23 and 43...23 MAT sensor,no big deal.The code 43 though...Im stumped..is the code pointing at the module?..or what?..The car runs great.I assumed that they either worked or they didnt.No misfire,starts great-runs great.Any ideas?....Thanks in advance.....1991 L-98 motor
I just checked my book and this is what it states:
Code 43- Knock Sensor (KS) or Electronic Spark Control (ESC) circuit fault.
If your car is running fine, I would look at the knock sensor! I have another book that may go more in depth. I look it up and get back to you.
The knock sensor produces a voltage signal which is sent to the ECM when knock or ping is present (sometimes do to using a lower than req octane). The ECM retards the ignition timing based on the signal though.
You can also test the sensor if you have a timing light. While the engine is running and watching the timing, tap the front engine and see if the timing retards. Hope this helps.
