Default Pushrod Size

I just got my AFR Heads installed
With all the changes going to different CC503 comp cam, 1.6 RR and AFR heads the original Pushrods are 7.2.
I installed the pushrods, marked the valve stems, put the RR's in and rotated the engine twice.
The marks on the valve stems are almost centered. Could I be that lucky and use the stock pushrods.
With stock heads and the same goodies of cam and 1.6 RR I was using 7.05 pushrods.
I read that the AFR deck adds +.10 to pushrod length.
For some reason I can not add a pict

With all that you're doing, I would not be using your existing pushrods at all. I'd invest in a new set, and being unsure, I'd purchase a checking pushrod to determine the actual length you need. CompCams has a good write-up on the subject:

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the feedback and link.
I have a pushrod checker and I just tried with it set at 7.10 and the line mark moved slighly back to just slightly above valve center line (towards intake). These are very small movements, I heard it is better have a slightly longer pushrod than shorter.
I was just anxious to get the project running and will be buying some new chrome molly trickflow rods.

On my 89, I have AFR 180 comps with stiff springs. ZZ409 cam, RR's and AFR told me to use stock length only hardened. Check with them!

Good luck

I found that the 7.1 adjustable length rod may the geometry dead center. The Trickflow pushrods that I had been using with the original LT1 heads of 7.05 put the center slightly towards intake. From what I read I should stay with the 7.05.
Thanks everyone for your input.

Are you checking the rocker geometry with checker springs or regular valve springs??

Using regular valve springs will collaspe the plunger in the hyd lifter and cause your pattern and pushrod length to be off.

You should either shim up an old lifter (to make it solid) or use very light checker springs.
