Default DRM COILOVERS anyone using these??

I was curious about the drm coilover suspension. I looks pretty good But I was wondering about the fit and what you do with the stock springs and of course how they perform. any feedback is appriciated. thanks Rich

I asume the stock spring gets tossed! I'm also curios to see what people think of the coil overs.

Hey, what I'm mad about is us 88's get left out in the cold when it comes to suspension... Without a serious outlay of $$$ to change over the components to 89 and up....

they made soooo many changes with the suspension in 89, that it would require 2 seperate kits... sad to say.

however, the kit will work in 2 ways, augment the transverse or replace it completely.

I prefer the replace completely option.

The downside - most racing organizations will bump you up to a prepared class... and coil overs alone ain't enough to get you there.

What changes were made from 88 to 89? I know front shocks for the 88 are unique, but I always thought all other components were the same for 88+ (control arms, spring, bar)

This comes up here alot.
the general concensous is that they're not worth it.

BTW What are you planning on doing with the car?

Most autocross/track coordinators will throw you to the wolves!

brian,I am inteested in making the car handle better.I would like to get involved in solo I. Right now the car seems bouncy ( not stiff enough) I put on bilstein sports, the front spring is especially squishy, like it doesnt want to hold the car up. its not cracked that I can see.

I've run them for a couple of years now and they are great. I probably got a bigger benefit from the special shock valving but the car handles very well! I autocross and time trial on road race tracks as well as road race. It's a nice setup and not too difficult to install. Peter S. at DRM will walk you through the pros & cons as well as help you with the installation. I have installed two sets to date, one on my car and one on a fellow racer's car (1990). There is a benefit to this setup. The greatest benefit is tuneability both from corner wieghts to changing spring rates.

I have had them on my '86 for about 4 years now and IHMO they were worth the money and effort. I bought the entire DRM Xtra-Grip suspension setup (no worth the money in retrospect) and the Coil-overs were included. Peter set me up with a very aggressive spring/shock combo that really changed the character of my car's handling versus the stock Z51 setup. On the pre-88 suspension there is quite a bit of work to get these suckers on, but I would do it all over again, except this time I would use Delrin bushings and spherical bearings instead of the urethane.

Peter at DRM did a coilover set up for me that is just AWSOME. My 90 car has FX-3 so I sent the shocks to Cal and had them redone per Rippies specs. Bilstein sent them to Rippie where they put them together. They did another chip for the controller and the outcome has been great. I can drive the car on the street and stiffen it up at the track with a flip of a switch.
If you plan on track time, fat tires,coil-overs and big brakes are the way to go.IMHO :) [IMG][/IMG]
