95 lean condition code

Default 95 lean condition code

Im getting a 44 code looked it up says lean condition. car runs good 75% of the time when it dosent it misses and sputters...just enuff to ***** ya off, cleaned k&n air filter and changed out fuel filter. still running ruff, and other ideas? thanks!!

One of the potential problems with the K&N is over oiling fouling the MAF. If the MAF were coated with oil it would let more air pass than what it reports and would result in a lean condition. Try clearing the codes and disconnecting the MAF. Drive for a while w/o the MAF and see if the only code you get is for the inop MAF or if it still runs lean w/o it.

Other ideas are all fuel delivery related. Bad injector, low fuel pressure, low fuel flow rate, etc.

Last year on my '96 I was getting sporadic lean conditions and also an inefficient catalyst code - installing new O2 sensors fixed it. I bought Denso's from RockAuto - half the price of the AC Delco and they worked fine. You might also want to check your fuel injectors - ohm test them (see the sticky at the top of the page).

*edit* - checking the MAF is a good idea as mentioned above - probably worth picking up a can of MAF cleaner.

i changed out both o2 sensors a couple months ago. ran fine.... i will try to disconnect the maf. to clear the codes do i disconnect the battery for a min or two?

Also check for vacuum leaks. The PCV valve, under the driver's side injector cover, is a prime candidate.
